REALTISTS®
- A HISTORY SHARED
The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REAL ESTATE BROKERS, INC., (NAREB),
was founded in Tampa, Florida in 1947 when Black and other
minority real estate professionals were denied membership in the
then existing real estate trade organizations across the nation.
NAREB was founded on the philosophy of excellence, forever
guiding and preparing its membership to meet the challenges of
each new tomorrow. Members of NAREB are called "REALTISTS".
Although
comprised principally of Black real estate professionals, the
REALTIST organization is an integrated entity open to quality
practitioners of all races who are interested in achieving the
goals of the REALTIST theme "DEMOCRACY IN HOUSING". REALTISTS
have made substantial contributions to the cause of democracy by
working to provide housing for all without limitations or
restrictions. REALTISTS have become the voice and conscience of
the proponents of equal housing opportunities for all citizens.
This involves working on civic programs and in the political
arena as well as working with the private sector. All of these
facets are part and parcel of the REALTIST program throughout
the nation. NAREB is one of the oldest and largest minority
trade associations in America.
The California Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc., (CAREB),
was established in 1955.
CAREB functions as the supporting arm at the State level for the
Local Boards throughout California. CAREB also aligns itself
between the Local Boards and NAREB as a valuable link to
national issues. CAREB has a very close working relationship
with the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency
and, in turn, with the Commissioner of the Department of Real
Estate. In order to become a REALTIST, one must be a member of a
Local Board, CAREB, and NAREB.
